Sergio Aguero wants Phil Foden to inherit the No.10 shirt he is vacating at Manchester City.

City's record goalscorer Aguero is leaving at the expiration of his contract at next month and looks set to return to La Liga with Barcelona after seven wonderful, trophy-laden seasons in English football.

Aguero signed off at the Etihad Stadium with a brilliant brace against Everton on Sunday, taking his incredible City goals tally to 260 in 389 games.

Pep Guardiola has said the Premier League champions cannot replace their legendary striker but Aguero feels as though Foden is the perfect candidate to take his iconic No.10 jersey.

Speaking on a Twitch stream last night, "I think the No.10 shirt should be given to Phil Foden. Some say Kevin. The thing is, I believe Kevin used his number [17] at other clubs, so I don't think he would change it. That's why I think Phil Foden."

Aguero also described Foden, who has been in sensational form this term, as a "crack player" - which basically means he is outstanding/world-class.

In 2011, an 11-year-old Foden was a ball boy watching Aguero score twice off the bench in his City debut against Swansea and he then went on to assist his 200th in sky blue when he became teammates with him many years later later.

Foden paid tribute to the Argentine ace after his send-off against Everton, where the 20-year-old was on the scoresheet and lifted a third Premier League title.

"He's unbelievable isn't he?" Foden said, as per the official Manchester City website.

"You know how much the fans love him and all the players. You can see that today when he scored everyone ran over to celebrate with him.

"I was a ball boy here watching him for many years score so many goals.

"It's sad to see him go but I wish him all the best in whatever he does next."

Foden currently wears the No.47 shirt as a tribute to his late grandfather Ronnie, who passed away aged 47. He is said to have politely declined a shirt number change in the summer of 2019.
