Scott Parker Reveals Sir Alex Ferguson Sent Him A Good Luck Message

Scott Parker Reveals Sir Alex Ferguson Sent Him A Good Luck Message

Scott Parker received some words of encouragement from the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson after being named as Fulham's interim manager.

Parker, who was capped 18 times by England and even captained his country, had been working as a first-team coach at Craven Cottage but is now assuming the role of caretaker boss following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri yesterday.

The Italian's last game was the 2-0 defeat inflicted by Southampton on Wednesday - a result which left the club in 19th position, 10 points adrift from safety with 10 league games remaining.

Former Charlton, Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs midfielder Parker needs a miracle if he is going to keep Fulham in the Premier League but he's received a detailed message of support from Sir Alex, arguably the greatest manager in the history of English football.

"I don't really have many friends, but yesterday the phone was pinging away," Parker said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.

"I had some amazing text messages. Sir Alex text me late last night, which was pretty incredible really.

"To think that he spent the time to write a long, detailed message giving me some advice on how he sees things was truly inspirational really, and I know it sounds a big comment, but it's the truth."

Parker, still only 38, was already thinking about becoming a manager when he was at Spurs and admits this is a huge opportunity to stake his claim for getting the job on a permanent basis.

"It's definitely an audition. On a personal note this is something I started working towards seven years ago when I was a Spurs player.

"I've got an ambition to be a manager. My main focus at this moment in time is getting the team together, finding some stability.

'"It's been a whirlwind 24 hours but I'm really looking forward to it. As a young person in this position, I'm very grateful."

Incredibly, in being succeeded by Parker at Fulham, Ranieri has been replaced by his last ever Chelsea signing after taking over from Jokanovic, who was his first ever addition at the Blues. Proper full circle stuff.
