Ross Barkley has spoken out about the transfer deadline day collapse of his move to Chelsea.

The Everton midfielder was reported to have decided against a move to Stamford Bridge during his medical, but now the England international has taken to social media to downplay these rumours and set the record straight.

Barkley had been expected to leave the Toffees, with Everton manager Ronald Koeman confirming that the midfielder hadn't signed a new contract at Goodison Park and would likely be leaving Merseyside during the summer transfer window.

But, with Barkley currently suffering from an injury, the 23-year-old decided not to make a switch away from Everton, this summer.

Barkley tweeted, "I did not undertake a medical with any club at any point.

"I simply decided that due to my injury, it would be best to make a decision on my future and assess all my options in January when fully fit. Thanks for all of the support."

Barkley's hamstring injury has kept him out of Everton's opening three Premier League games of this season. The 23-year-old will be free to discuss terms with other clubs in January, should he not decide to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.

Tottenham Hotspur are also believed to be interested in signing the England international and could revive their interest in the new year.
