Wayne Rooney's nine-year old son, Kai, is poised to return to Manchester City's academy set-up once the family head back to the United Kingdom.

Having finished his stint in the United States with DC United, Rooney will now ply his trade with Championship outfit Derby County after penning an 18-month player-coach contract.

The transfer will allow Rooney another opportunity to play in English football while he works towards his coaching badges, but it will also benefit his eldest son in a big way.

Once previously in the United academy, Kai was training at City's state-of-the-art facilities aged 7 back in 2016 and watched by his Dad and Grandad, Wayne Snr.

And as per The Mirror, Kai is to be welcomed back by City - having been promised a spot in the youth system prior him making the move across the pond.

During his time in America, Kai had been playing for Bethesda Soccer Club and is said to be a talented prospect.

In the past, plenty of players with ties to United have had their kids on City's books, including Robin van Persie's son Shaqueel, Phil Neville's son Harvey and Darren Fletcher's twins Jack and Tyler.

Across town at Manchester United, some fans believe their record goalscorer Rooney has been cloned in the form of youngster Mark Helm.

17-year old Helm doesn't look like United's all-time record goalscorer in terms of his appearance but supporters have spotted an resemblance in the way he struck a sublime free-kick into the top corner in an Under 18 Premier League game against Leicester.
