Footballer's suffer some very nasty injuries playing football, and sometimes these can be career ending, however usually they are around the leg area and not near the face. Last night Robin van Persie suffered a nasty and frankly weird eye injury.

RvP opened the scoring for Fenerbahce in their 3-1 win over Akhisar Belediyespor yesterday evening after 26 minutes. However 15 minutes later the former Manchester United striker was being stretchered off after a collision with an opponent in the box.

The 33 year old was taken off as he was bleeding from his left eye and it led to people fearing that he might not be able to see out of the eye again. The club rubbished those claims though and confirmed that he suffered a small eyelid rupture and needed stitches after bleeding from the eye.

The Dutch striker did manage to return to the stadium in time to watch the second half through his one good eye as his team mates saw out the win. However the team are struggling in fifth place, eight points off the top of the table.

Amusingly, although not for the player, Turkish media reported that when Van Persie was taken to the ambulance to be treated he had to wait 15 minutes as the driver had lost the keys!
