Riyad Mahrez Releases Statement About His Situation At Leicester

After over a week of silence and missed training sessions, Riyad Mahrez has finally spoken out about his situation at Leicester City and his collapsed move to Manchester City.

The Algerian winger was the subject of a transfer deadline day bid from the champions elect, last week, only for the Foxes to price City out of the move, demanding a deal worth in the region of £90 million for the one time PFA Player of The Year, while City were unwilling to go north of £65 million.

Leicester's stance apparently infuriated Mahrez, who had issued a transfer request the day before City's initial bid of £50 million was made. Today, he trained with his teammates for the first time since the request was handed in.

In the meantime, a lot of news has circulated about whether the Algerian would play for Leicester again, with many being critical of his conduct, prompting the 26-year-old to speak out, in an official statement.

Mahrez said, "Off the back of that many people and journalists have made assumptions without properly checking the story, so I would like to clarify that all those so-called assumptions of why I was absent are completely untrue.

"I have been a part of the Leicester City team that has achieved much success including promotion to the Premier League and being Champions of the League.

"My goals have always been the same and I have always given my full 100% when I play for the club the fans and my team-mates.

"Those goals remain the same today and in the future and when I am asked to be a part of the Leicester team, rest assured I will continue to give my all."

Mahrez also claims in the statement that Leicester always knew of his whereabouts, as opposed to him being AWOL, as had been previously reported.

The winger has missed the Foxes last two games but after returning to training today, could potentially play this weekend against, ironically enough, Manchester City.
