Why Manchester United Fans Will Be Supporting Manchester City In The FA Cup Final

Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side would be doing Manchester United a massive favour if they defeat Watford in the FA Cup final.

Manchester United fans will be hoping for rivals Manchester City to help them out big time when they face Watford in the FA Cup final on 18th May.

Look, nobody wants to support their rivals, but a victory for the reigning Premier League champions in the final could really, really help the Red Devils out a lot.

Should United finish in sixth place before the season is out, then they will secure a spot in the Europa League.

However, they might find that their European campaign could kick off as early as July depending on how the FA Cup final shapes out.

You see, if Watford beat City in the final and United finish sixth, then Javi Gracia's men would snatch the second automatic group stage place from Ole Gunnar Solskjær's men.

That's right, it would mean that United would be thrown into a European qualifier in July, which Solskjær would most likely want to avoid.

United missed out on a chance to finish the season in the top four after they were held to a 1-1 draw at the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday.

The Red Devils head coach, who many fans have called to be sacked after missing out on Champions League football, admitted that his side didn't deserve a top-four finish.

"It hurts whenever you don't win a game of football. In a stadium like this with loads of energy, their last game of the season at home, we gave them some hope and we couldn't reach our level again," he told BBC Sport.

"There was always going to be a period in this game Huddersfield would press us because of the energy of the crowd.

"We had a spell we couldn't get going, now it's done, we're disappointed but we have to look forward.

"We haven't deserved to be top four, we've chased the pack and been given chances, the league is so tight.

"When we got the opportunities, we didn't take them. The table doesn't lie in the end."
