Iceland Captain Gets His 'Revenge' On Cristiano Ronaldo

Iceland Captain Gets His 'Revenge' On Cristiano Ronaldo

Good banter.

It's not been Cristiano Ronaldo's best week as a footballer. For a guy who is used to being referred to as one of the two best players in the world and doing some magical things he's having a rather bad time of it.

The Portugal forward has had two matches to become the first player to score at four European championships and was presented with the perfect opportunity against Austria on Saturday only to hit the post from a penalty late in the game that meant his country have two points from two games.

Ronaldo was already feeling the heat after two games of absolute rubbish from himself and then criticising the Iceland team for getting a point against Portugal in the opening group game between the sides, bemoaning the Scandinavian's "small mentality" after the final whistle.

The Real Madrid star found himself on the end of a bit of a backlash following that comment especially when there were what turned out to be false rumours about him refusing to swap shirts with Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson at the end of the 1-1 draw. Gunnarsson denied that but his team still chipped in to get him a replica Ronaldo shirt:

Obviously it's all a bit more civil than people would hope, which of us doesn't love a bit of needle, however after his comments following the first game who could blame the Iceland team for taking their own shots at Ronaldo.

If Iceland get any result against Austria and Portugal lose to Hungary at the same time then CR7 and his countryman would likely be out of the tournament and wouldn't that be embarrassing.
