Portland Timbers Start Twitter Feud With LA Galaxy After De Jong Horror Tackle

How was he not sent off for it?

Portland Timbers decided to go after LA Galaxy following Nigel de Jong's horror tackle on Darlington Nagbe last night.

An otherwise bore 1-1 draw at the Stubhub Center will be remembered for the Dutchman conjuring up memories of his kung-fu kick on Xabi Alonso during the 2010 World Cup final.

Although this wasn't as high, it was every bit as dangerous as he went in hard on Nagbe's leg with around 15 minutes to go in the MLS clash.

Amazingly, de Jong escaped with just a yellow card.

In a first for Twitter conversation between major teams, Portland Timbers took exception with LA Galaxy and asked if they were surprised by the Dutchman's horror tackle:

That got a response from Galaxy - and a ill-judged attempt at bringing humour into things:

Timbers didn't find it funny:

There has been no official confirmation on the extent of Nagbe's injury, but it doesn't look good for the USMNT midfielder.

And that's a big setback for Timbers, who rely heavily on his industry and goals in the middle of the park - maybe that explains their Twitter account getting so emotional.
