David Beckham believes that Cristiano Ronaldo "doesn't reach the level" of Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

The 45-year-old football legend came up against six-time Ballon d'Or winner Messi in 2013 during his brief stint at Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG clashed with Barca in the Champions League quarter-finals and Messi came off the bench in the second leg to help his side secure a 1-1 draw.

Beckham was asked to weigh in on the heated debate between Ronaldo and Messi, saying that they are "both above the rest."

However, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star claimed it is "impossible" that there will be another player like Messi.

"He [Messi] is alone in his class as a player, it is impossible that there is another like him," Beckham told Argentine outlet Telam.

"He, like Cristiano Ronaldo, who is not at his level, are both above the rest."

Messi scored in the first leg of the Champions League tie as Barcelona secured a 2-2 draw at the Parc des Princes.

But the Argentina captain was substituted off in the clash after he suffered a hamstring strain.

Javier Pastore handed PSG the advantage in the return leg before Messi's introduction in the second half as he played a part in Pedro's equaliser.

"We were leading before Messi came in, and once he came in, Barcelona scored," Beckham said.

The former PSG star, who retired from football after his time in the French capital, also came off the bench deep into the second half.

But Beckham was unable to help his side pull back ahead as PSG were dumped out of the Champions League.

"Although I enjoy playing at this level at my age, I do not like to lose," the Inter Miami president said at the time.

"Our team played well. In both matches, we did things we should be proud of.

"We didn't lose against Barcelona, and that is something that should motivate us for the next season."
