Real Madrid are still actively looking to get a big attacking signing this summer but must cough up some serious dosh if they are seriously interested in Valencia striker Rodrigo.

Los Blancos have been linked with the former Benfica man as they make the not-so-easy attempt to try and replace the goals lost by Cristiano Ronaldo after his switch to Juventus.

New Real boss Julen Lopetegui is well aware of what he brings to the table after working with him with Spain Under 21's and then the first-team.

But Los Che's stance is that they will not sell their main man for anything less than the £107 million release clause in his current contract, which has another four years to run on it.

Everyone is aware that [Real Madrid coach Julen] Lopetegui knows Rodrigo but what happens at Madrid, we do not know," club president Anil Murthy told Tribuna Deportivo radio show.

"What I do know is three things: Rodrigo is a very important player that has a very high value, he wants to play here with us and he has a €120m release clause. We didn't place the €120m clause without analysing the market."

In 2017/18, the 27-year old scored 16 goals in 31 starts in La Liga, and also contributed further with four assists. Iago Aspas of Celta Vigo was the only Spaniard in the top tier to score more goals than him last erm.

Rodrigo actually joined Los Blancos as a youngster in 2009 but only got as far as the B team before joining Benfica, who subsequently loaned him out to Owen Coyle's Bolton Wanderers in the 2010/11 Premier League campaign.

Now he's being viewed as one of the primary forwards Real are pursuing, but they may well be put off by the price tag.

The reigning Champions League winners have added Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Real Sociedad right-back Alvaro Odriozola to the ranks so far, with there still being time for reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
