Real Madrid looked to have turned a corner under Santiago Solari but they were humbled by 13th placed Eibar in La Liga's early kick-off today.

After Julen Lopetegui was sacked following a dire run of results that was finished off by the 5-1 trouncing at the hands of Barcelona in El Clasico, Real won the next four games on the bounce under Solari, who has signed a contract which keeps him at the club till June 30, 2021.

They bested Melilla in the Copa del Rey, Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League and Real Valladolid and Celta Vigo in La Liga, scoring 15 times and conceding just twice.

Yet Los Blancos returned to their previous inept levels today in Solari's first game as permanent manager, with goals from Gonzalo Escalante, Sergi Enrich and Kike giving Eibar a memorable 3-0 win over the Champions League winners.

Going in today's game, Eibar had scored just three goals against Real in the entire history and had never tasted victory over the 13-time European champions.

But they were well up for it Ipurua Municipal Stadium and were more than deserving of their historic win. They could have had even more goals such was their dominance.

It really has gone pear-shaped for Real ever since Zinedine Zidane left and Cristiano Ronaldo moved on to Juventus in a £99 million move.
