La Liga leaders Real Madrid have been hit with a massive injury blow that could have a monumental effect on the team over the next few months.

Key man Toni Kroos, who recently penned a new contract with the club, is set to be out for two to three months, with Madrid confirming in a medical report that the former Bayern man has fractured his fifth metatarsal on his right foot.

Even though Real still have their mercurial front three of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo fit and available, Kroos is arguably more important to Real as he really sets the tempo in midfield and gives the deadly trio the service they so desperately crave.

Big games are coming thick and fast for Los Blancos, who play the Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon on 19th November - their first game back after the national team break. Real will not be able to call upon the services of Kroos for the eagerly anticipated El Clasico showdown with Barcelona on 3rd December, while they also play Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in the same month.

Could this be a huge turning point in the Champions League holders' season? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
