Jose Mourinho pulled no punches towards Frank Lampard as the pair clashed during a heated touchline argument in Tottenham and Chelsea's League Cup clash.

Chelsea took the lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday as Timo Werner opened the scoring in the 19th minute.

But not long after tensions flared on the touchline between former Blues boss Mourinho and current manager Lampard.

The Daily Telegraph's Sam Wallace claims the 'Special One' took a shot at Lampard over Chelsea going 3-0 down to West Brom in their Premier League clash on the weekend.

"F*****g hell, Frank, when you're losing 3-0 you're not standing up here," Mourinho allegedly said.

ESPN's James Olley added to the speculation over what the Spurs boss said by saying it "seemed to be Mourinho complaining about Lampard becoming more vocal because Chelsea are winning."

He explained in his tweet: "Mourinho and Lampard exchanging heated words on the touchline. Couldn't catch all of it but gist seemed to be Mourinho complaining about Lampard becoming more vocal because Chelsea are winning.

"Saw a big grin just now from Lampard looking back at some of his backroom staff."

Fans wasted no time flocking to Twitter to share their reactions on the heated exchange between Lampard and Mourinho.

Chelsea lead 1-0 in the second half against Tottenham.

Full-time result: Erik Lamela pulled one back for Spurs in the second half to send the League Cup clash into a penalty shootout. Spurs will move to the next stage of the competition after beating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties.
