Matthijs de Ligt is quick. Like, very quick. Just ask Kylian Mbappe.

The 19-year-old is one of the hottest talents in world football. He graduated from Ajax's famed youth academy, eventually breaking into the first team and has since produced heroics in defence.

Despite his tender age, he's already won 13 international caps and forging a formidable defensive partnership with Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk.

And the pair continued their fine form by keeping a clean sheet against France back in November.

The Netherlands beat the World Champions 2-0 on home soil thanks to goals from Gini Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay.

However, the main talking point was de Ligt matching Mbappe's speed.

In fact, de Ligt not only matched Mbappe's pace but also snatched the ball away from the flying Frenchman in a very impressive moment.

Kids a talent.

Interest from around Europe is rife. Manchester City, Liverpool, Spurs as well as Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are all reportedly keeping tabs on de Ligt.

van Dijk likes what he sees and will report back to Liverpool if they need his opinion.

"He is already very far, especially at that age," he said.

The Liverpool star added: "A good defender, good boy, calm, knows what he wants and hopefully he makes the right choice in his next step.

"If they need my opinion at Liverpool, I'll give it.

"They will pay less for Matthijs! The amount for me was very high, though.

"No, in all seriousness. It's just like that and, if he ever becomes the most expensive defender, I'll be the first to congratulate him."
