Is he waiting for someone to leave?

In the modern game, plenty of footballers take their squad numbers pretty seriously and that's why it's slightly odd that Liverpool's new signing Fabinho still doesn't have a permanent shirt number yet.

The Brazilian midfielder joined the Reds from Monaco back in May in a deal worth in the region of £40 million.

But the club made absolutely no mention of which jersey he'd be pulling on for the forthcoming season.

Throughout the club's pre-season tour of the US, Fabinho has wore the number three shirt, vacated by Mamadou Sakho last summer, but the Liverpool Echo claim he's not keen on wearing it permanently.

The 24-year-old wore the number two kit during his time in France, and it could be that he's hanging on to find out if there's any way it can be wrestled from its current occupant Nathaniel Clyne.

It has also been rumoured that he may take Simon Mingolet's number 22 shirt, if he does leave Anfield this summer.

In the age of social media, hashtags and the multi million pound shirt deals, you'd have thought one of Liverpool's most expensive players of all-time would've been given a squad number by now, no?
