A National League outfit are hoping to bring former Arsenal, Bournemouth and England midfielder Jack Wilshere to the club in a surprise move, according to reports.

Once regarded as one of the Premier League's hottest prospects, Wilshere made his name at Arsenal, where he made 182 appearances during a memorable ten year spell in North London.

That spell was, however, was blighted with injuries and after moves to West Ham and Championship club Bournemouth, the 29-year-old is currently a free agent after being released at the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Back in August, Wilshere admitted in a candid interview with The Athletic that he was considering retiring from football but clubs remain interested in his services, including National League side Wrexham.

In fact, Wrexham, who are owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, are lining up an ambitious move to sign the midfielder, according to Football Insider.

The club are reportedly trying to lure free agent Wilshere, who is 'open to offers' as he looks to revive his career, with a contract offer this month.

In September, Wilshere returned to Arsenal after a spell training with Serie B side Como, where Dennis Wise is part of the technical staff.

Mikel Arteta welcomed his former teammate back to London Colney training base. The Spaniard said: "He is someone that I know who I shared the dressing room with, who is so loved around the club with every person here and our doors are always open."

Last month, Wilshere opened up about his desire to play abroad.

He told talkSPORT: "I'd like to go abroad actually. Obviously, I would like to play in the Premier League as well but I would also like to play abroad.

"I'm training with Arsenal 'til the end of January and the MLS start their pre-season in January."
