He arrived in Spain with a huge amount of expectation planted on his young shoulders, but since moving in January 2015, the Norwegian 'wonderkid' Martin Odegaard has struggled to make any sort of impact at Real Madrid.
Despite making a great first impression on his first start for Los Blancos during a 6-1 Copa Del Rey victory over Cultural Leonesa in 2016, the youngster has spent time on loan at Dutch side Heerenveen, where he impressed for the majority of his stay, last season.

That being said, Real Madrid's new manager Julen Lopetegui looks to have made a decision on his short-term future.
The Mirror report that the club are ready to give the Norwegian a chance to impress on loan again this season, this time in England.
It is believed Los Blancos want to expose the midfielder to a 'tougher brand' of football and the Championship is seen as the perfect place to hone those skills.

Aston Villa and Derby County have been touted as potential destinations, while others will reportedly make their interests known.
It's clear that Odegaard needs regular first team football in the coming months and it's increasingly unlikely that he won't get those minutes at the Bernabeu.
The 19-year-old played a small cameo in Real Madrid's pre-season friendly against Manchester United but the Madrid manager decided to haul him off in the 77th minute.

Despite him entering the field of play after the break, replacing Gareth Bale, he was substituted again just 31 minutes later - an unfortunate representation of his time in Spain.
It was perhaps Odegaard's only chance to show the world what Los Blancos have been missing in recent months, but it didn't exactly go to plan.
