Barcelona have been forced to release an official statement denying reports that Antoine Griezmann has agreed to join the club.

Spanish publications including SPORT and Marca claimed that the Atletico Madrid striker was on his way to the Camp Nou, with Barca having matched the player's 100 million euro release clause.

Here are two of the reports Barcelona referred to in their statement:

It was even reported that Barça had already reserved the number seven shirt for Griezmann in case he signs next summer, but the club have categorically rejected those claims in a statement:

"FC Barcelona strongly denies the information that has appeared over the course of the last few hours in different media regarding Atlético Madrid player, Antoine Griezmann, and an alleged deal with our club." The statement read.

"FC Barcelona expresses its objections in the face of these events and reiterates its full respect for the institution of Atlético Madrid."

Back in November, French newspaper Le 10 Sport reported that the 26 year old was 'very close' to agreeing terms with La Liga rivals Barcelona, though the clubs are yet to negotiate.

Once he had decided to stay in the summer, the France international signed a new deal that changed his release clause to £178 million in order to just make sure he wouldn't leave.

But the contract states that his clause will once again go back down to its initial £89 million on July 1st, so Barcelona could wait until then to do the deal.

Will Griezmann end up at Barcelona in the coming months? We'll have to wait and see.
