Maria Gaspar, the daughter of Arsenal technical director Edu, says she cannot open her Instagram DM's anymore because it's "full of abuse".

It has been a turbulent start to the Premier League campaign for Mikel Arteta's side. The North London club have suffered convincing defeats against Brentford and Chelsea in August; a poor run of form that has brought criticism from many.

In addition to their performances on the pitch, some have pointed towards the club's activity in the summer transfer market. Step forward former Gunners midfielder Edu, who oversees the "efficient strengthening" of their squad, including player scouting and recruitment.

Arsenal have splashed £132 million on five players in the current window. The club brought centre-back Ben White to North London for a reported £50 million, while a deal to sign midfielder Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid is said to be worth £31 million.

Micah Richards recently questioned Arsenal's business in the transfer market. The former Manchester City defender said they cannot attract the "top, top players" because they want to go to "the better performing teams" at this moment in time.

It's fair to say the pressure on Arsenal's recruitment is high and during their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the weekend, Edu was targeted by one fan.

As you can see in the footage below, Edu's wife, Paula Gaspar, stuck up her middle finger at the supporter.

The daughter of Edu Gaspar has now revealed the sheer amount of abuse she receives on Instagram amid Arsenal's struggles, and the hurt it brings.

"Look at everything my father was won, look at everything that he's done," Maria said on her Instagram story.

"I know about his potential. I'm not here to talk about that. But sometimes, reading this stuff, it hurts a lot. But we have to get used to this life, right. In life, there are ups and downs.

"My father has been on this life for a while, from criticism to praise, he's used to it but I am not. It hurts a lot, but we will learn [to get used to it].

"Everyday, I used to answer people on DMs, and some have asked why I stopped doing so. I can't open my DM's anymore because it's full of abuse, I don't have a lot of patience.

"My head is not right at the moment to explain why they're abusing my father."

Edu's son, Luigi, has said in the past that he received hundreds of messages urging him to tell his father about players to sign.

"Roughly 100 direct messages on Instagram, each day, telling me to tell my dad to sign a player", he told Gooner Talk.

"I liked a tweet about [Eduardo] Camavinga recently and fans went crazy but just because I like a tweet doesn't mean they are joining Arsenal."
