It's the day plenty of football fans have been waiting for.

The Premier League released their official fixtures for the 2018/19 season on Thursday morning, as newly promoted Cardiff City, Fulham and Wolves prepare for life in England's top flight.

As fans, we immediately seek out the 'crunch' fixtures for the upcoming season.

For example, Manchester United supporters will naturally look for games against Liverpool and Manchester City, while Arsenal fans will pick out The North London derby as their biggest fixture.

So how is the Premier League fixture list compiled?

"Producing the full fixture list is no random draw." the Premier League's official website states.

"It is the result of a meticulous and painstaking process that lasts almost half a year and involves the scheduling of 2,036 matches across the top four divisions."

That 'meticulous' and painstaking' process produced an eye-catching weekend in the upcoming Premier League campaign, and it has certainly got people talking.

On the 1st of December, the North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham will clash with the Merseyside Derby between Liverpool and Everton.

Plenty have discussed a potential conspiracy theory behind the process, with many claiming that these types of fixtures always land on the same day.

Do they have a point?
