Manchester City have been without playmaker David Silva in recent weeks after it emerged that he was ruled out because of personal reasons.

Silva's teammates paid tribute to the Spaniard, holding up his number 21 shirt in the dressing room after their win 4-1 win against Tottenham in December.

Kevin De Bruyne also appeared to pay tribute to Silva by making his number 21 shirt number with his two hands.

Now it has been revealed why Silva has been absent for Pep Guardiola's side.

The Times report that the reasons behind the personal reasons are related to the pregnancy of his partner, Yessica Suárez González. It also states that the problem has been resolved.

That being said, Guardiola has suggested Silva may need more time away from Man City for personal reasons, stating that "family is the most important thing" during a press conference this week.

"We are very happy David Silva is back with us." Guardiola said. "We don't know how long he will be with us but you saw again today he is an essential player with us. He wants to stay but family is the most important thing in life."

Silva returned to Manchester City training in December, but it looks like the Spaniard will be absent in the coming weeks.

We look forward to seeing David Silva back on the pitch after his layoff. It's great to hear everything is okay regarding the situation.

UPDATE: David Silva has now confirmed the news via a statement on his official Twitter account:

"I want to thank all of you for the love and good wishes received in the last few weeks. Special thanks to my teammates, the manager and all at the club for understanding my situation." He said.

"Also I want to share with you the birth of my son, Mateo, who was born extremely preterm and is fighting day by day with the help of the medical team."
