The Reason Why Harry Kane Was Brought On At 6-0 Up Against Tranmere Is Very Classy

Brilliant.

To many neutrals watching last night's FA Cup tie between Tottenham and Tranmere Rovers, the decision to bring on Harry Kane in the 74th minute was met with confusion and anger.

Mauricio Pochettino's side were 6-0 up against their League Two opponents when England international Kane replaced hat-trick hero Fernando Llorente.

So why did the manager decide to bring on one of the best forwards in world football in a game where Spurs were dominating? Respect.

That's right. Pochettino has explained his decision and to those who may have found it disrespectful or just plain wrong, then you may change your mind in the next 10 seconds:

"It was respect. Respect the people, respect the opponent. They're not going to have many chances to see Harry Kane play here in a competition like the FA Cup." he said after the game.

"For different reasons I decided to make a change and put Kane on the pitch but one of them is that it's important to show respect to the people here so they could see Harry Kane, who is an icon in English football.

"It is difficult in that division to see it. It was important to see him in action."

It may have been the biggest away victory in Spurs' history, but apart from the scoreline, the club have earned our respect with this gesture.

Fernando Llorente bagged a hat-trick, Serge Aurier netted twice, in-form winger Son-Heung-min grabbed a goal in 57th minute and that man Harry Kane just had to score the final goal in a dominant win.

Tranmere manager Micky Mellon was hugely complimentary towards Tottenham after the game:

"Tottenham were brilliant. Every mistake we made, they took their opportunity. They were great with the football, with getting back, and their attitude coming here was fantastic." he said.

"They showed what wonderful footballers they are. We lost heavily but it's about bigger picture for us. We're disappointed, we wanted to give a better account of ourselves score-wise, but we'll keep moving forward and this game gives us an opportunity to do that."

It was a great win for Pochettino's men, who will be one of the favourites to lift the trophy at the end of the season.
