The Theory Behind Why Barcelona Will Win The Champions League This Season

Barcelona have failed to reach the past three Champions League finals, with their bitter rivals Real Madrid bringing home the goods, but the Catalan giants may lift the famous trophy in 2018/19 judging by this theory.
Every season Lionel Messi scored Barcelona's first goal in La Liga, the club has gone on to win the Champions League crown.
In fact, when the five-time Balon d'Or winner scored their first goal in the league back in 08/09, 10/11 and 14/15, the Spanish club have ended up with a league and European cup double.
You might want to place your bets now, folks - that's if you believe in the theory.

Siempre que Messi marca el primer gol del Barça en #LaLiga (2008-09, 2010-11 y 2014-15) termina el curso con doblete Liga + Copa de Europa o con triplete. pic.twitter.com/p4r6Ri17TQ
Just a friendly reminder that whenever Messi scores the first league goal in the opening league game, Barça always ended up winning the Champions League. Let's hope we can replicate that record this season.

Lionel Messi was at it again last night. He made history again, scoring Barcelona's 6,000th La Liga goal in his 15th straight campaign for the Spanish side.
Ernesto Valverde's side managed to comfortably beat Alaves 3-0 at the Nou Camp, with Messi and Philippe Coutinho getting on the scoresheet.
To the surprise of nobody, though, the Argentinian hit the headlines with this milestone.
