Chris Kamara is the bookies favourite to become Gillette Soccer Saturday's new host for the 2022/23 campaign as the likes of Laura Woods, Piers Morgan and Roy Keane continue to be linked with the role.

In a surprise announcement on Saturday afternoon's show, current presenter Jeff Stelling confirmed he would be leaving Soccer Saturday and Sky Sports at the end of the season after 25 successful years at the helm.

In an emotional speech, he told viewers: "I have come to the incredibly difficult decision that this will be my last season.

"This is my decision - there has been no pressure. Sky have been absolutely brilliant with me, as they always have been.

"I am not intending to retire but it is time to let somebody else have a go at what is the best job in the world.

"I have loved every moment of my 30 years with Sky, but like every Saturday afternoon the time eventually comes to blow the final whistle.

"I am proud to have been part of such a winning team for so long and look forward to the many more special moments on Soccer Saturday for the rest of this season - and perhaps even another promotion push from Hartlepool United."

Speculation as to who will replace Stelling at the end of the campaign has been rife but who will replace Stelling?

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power have placed former Portsmouth, Brentford and Swindon midfielder Chris Kamara as favourite at 10/1.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: "Kammy is adored by huge swathes of the show's fanbase and is the dark horse of the bunch to make an 'unbelievable' switch to become the face of the show.

"Who knows what'll happen next, but one thing is for sure, we'd love to see that trademark 'tache back on our screens!"

Here's how Kammy reacted to the news on social media. And yes, that is Alison Hammond at 80/1.

As you can see in the above tweet, Gillette Soccer Special and Sky Sports presenter Julian Warren is the second favourite to take over from Stelling at 11/1, while YouTube personality Chunkz is at 14/1 alongside Laura Woods and Josh Denzel

There are certainly some huge names in the mixer, with Arsenal superfan Piers Morgan at 33/1, former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville at 40-1 and Simon Cowell [yes, Simon Cowell] ranking alongside Roy Keane with 66/1 odds.
