John McGinn scored the goal of the night in Scotland's opening World Cup qualifier against Austria.

The 26-year-old Aston Villa midfielder, who has made 37 appearances in all competitions this season, netted his eighth goal for The Scots on Thursday evening with a wonderful overhead-kick in the 85th minute to snatch a point at Hampden Park.

After a dull first-half, a goal from Austria striker Sasa Kalajdzic opened the floodgates during tonight's Group F clash.

Scotland centre-back Grant Hanley equalised in the 71st minute with a solid header before that man Kalajdzic scored his second of the game with just ten minutes remaining.

But it was 'super' John McGinn's wonderstrike that sealed a point for Steve Clarke's side. Here's some of the reaction from social media after that stunning strike.

John McGinn spoke to the media after the full-time whistle and, like many did it at home, he thought the goal was offside.

"I thought I was offside." he told Sky Sports. "I didn't know I was as flexible as that. Thankfully it got us a point in the end.

"I'm never normally that far forward but the gaffer made changes and I'm glad to be scoring again. I'm delighted with the late goal but disappointed we haven't won.

"It maybe took us too long to suss them out in the first-half but it's now all about belief.

"It's not the worst result tonight and we want to make Hampden a fortress."

Can Scotland qualify from their group and reach the World Cup finals this time around?
