Pep Guardiola Coaching Raheem Sterling About Body Positioning Will Never Get Old

Pep Guardiola Coaching Raheem Sterling About Body Positioning Will Never Get Old

He's improved so much under Guardiola.

I think it's fair to say that Pep Guardiola's coaching methods have helped improve Raheem Sterling's overall game.

Back in November last year, Sterling scored a brilliant winning goal against Feyenoord and it is further evidence of how Pep Guardiola's methods have made the England international into one of the deadliest wingers in world football, never mind the Premier League.

The 87th minute strike, which ensured City topped Group F, was incredibly well-worked between Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan.

Sterling dropped deep to make a passing option and was found perfectly by Gundogan outside the box. But instead of holding onto the ball, he played a first-time ball back to the Germany international, before making a brilliant run in behind.

It just sums up how Sterling has shone under the Spaniard. The stats speak for themselves.

Gundogan came up with a fine first-time pass of his own, weighting the pass to perfection to find the onrushing Sterling, who dinked the ball over Brad Jones.

Not long after the goal, a clip of Guardiola coaching Sterling in pre-season surfaced, and it perfectly ties in with the positional play and movement he displayed to create the opening in that Champions League game.

The clip, posted by @LukeMCR_on Twitter, features footage of Pep, in an open training session back in August, animatedly coaching Sterling about the importance of body position, in what is a fascinating watch.

In the game at the Etihad, where City struggled for large parts, Sterling put those teachings into practice and saw the results follow when he received the ball, played the pass, made the run and then supplied the finish.

Simple but effective. Poetry in motion stuff.
