They might have been knocked out after failing to pick up a single point in their first two matches, but plenty of Panama fans had reason to celebrate during their 6-1 defeat to England on Sunday afternoon.
Felipe Baloy, the oldest member of the squad who fittingly wears the captain's armband, turned the ball home from a free-kick to become the first player in the nation's history to score a goal at the World Cup.
It was a moment thousands of Panamanians will never forget.
Fans in the Nizhny Novgorod stadium couldn't contain their emotions and many broke down in tears, despite the scoreline. Copa90 uploaded the following clip moments after Baloy managed to find the net. Goosebumps.
Baloy became the third oldest goalscorer in the competition (37 years, 120 days) behind Gunnar Gren (37 years, 236 days) and Roger Milla (42 years).

It was certainly worth the 17 year wait, Felipe.
Isn't the World Cup a marvelous competition. Yes, Panama were 6-0 down but they never gave up and that goal will go down in the nation's history.

Can we just have this tournament all year round, please?
