Michael Carrick has given a detailed insight into how he operated as a player and every centre-midfielder should give it a watch.
The former West Ham, Spurs and Manchester United midfielder, known for his pinpoint passing from deep, is regarded by many as one of the most underrated and under-appreciated midfielders in recent Premier League history.
His effectiveness in that deep-lying midfield role at Old Trafford was crucial in Sir Alex Ferguson's reign. Carrick lifted five Premier League titles and a Champions League in that time, establishing himself as a regular.
He was one of the best in Europe while operating in that holding position and was unlucky to pick up just 34 caps for England.
So what made him such a great midfielder? The 39-year-old, who is currently a first-team coach at Manchester United after retiring in 2018, spoke about his position in a fascinating interview with The Boot Room.
He discusses the art of passing and receiving, as well as other topics. You can watch his brilliant analysis in the three clips below:
Twitter user @lawrenceostlere summed up the clip perfectly.
"I just learnt more about how to be a central midfielder from this 2-minute clip than a lifetime listening to football pundits." he wrote. "TV coverage would be so much richer if Roy Keane, for example, told us how he played the game and mastered technical skills rather than another rant.

Carrick has spoken in the past about his influence from that holding midfield role.
"If you're playing the holding role in a central three in midfield, you're screening the two centre-halves and stopping the service getting to the opposition's forwards." he told FourFourTwo.
"If the game is being played at 100mph, don't get carried away with what's happening - positioning is the key. If you can get on the ball and support the attack then go for it, but be aware of where the danger is if the move breaks down.
"If they counter-attack you've got to be able to get in a position to help the defence."
Michael Carrick man. One of the most underrated players I can think of. Absolutely critical in one of the best periods in MUFC history.

Was Michael Carrick underrated?
Juan Mata: "He was a fantastic midfielder and, for some times of his career, he was underrated or underappreciated - in the national team and for the club." pic.twitter.com/FmZxm3nitg

Thoughts on Carrick's analysis here? It sounds like he would be an incredible pundit, that's for sure.
