Manchester United's in-form full-back Luke Shaw heaped praise on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of Thursday night's Europa League semi-final clash against Roma.

The 25-year-old, who has been one of United's standout performers in recent months, was taking part in the club's pre-match press conference as they prepare for a difficult clash at Old Trafford.

He spoke about a number of topics, including his thoughts on the fact he has created as many chances as Lionel Messi this season.

But it was a question about his performances - and the reason behind his form - that grabbed the headlines.

After a reporter asked what's going right this season and what is leading to these type of performances, Shaw paused before crediting Solskjaer, who laughed off the compliment.

"I think a lot of things. I think one of them is the manager sat next to me. And I'm not just saying that because he's sat here!" the England international said.

"But of course, he's one of them. I think of course myself as well. I've changed a lot of things; I've added more belief in myself and I feel a lot more confident.

"The most important thing is I'm just enjoying playing football again and I think that's a very important thing to have in our job.

He continued, saying: "You need to be enjoying it and I'm doing that. The team are going in the right direction and I want to be a part of it, so I need to keep my high performance up and just keep myself in the team because there's competition all over the squad.

"I want to keep improving, keep getting better and keep helping the team to push and hopefully win trophies.

Shaw later spoke about the fact that he has created the same amount of chances as Barcelona's Lionel Messi this season from the full-back spot.

"Yeah, I think it's very important." the left-back said when asked about the importance of creating chances, getting down the wing and playing crosses.

"I think a full-back nowadays needs to create a lot and do as much as they can to help the team. Not just me, but Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] on the other side has been brilliant for us and creating a lot of chances himself too.

"So, I think a full-back nowadays, first and foremost we're defenders, we need to defend but I think a lot of the game nowadays is full-backs flying forward.

"It's something I personally enjoy doing trying to help the team as much as possible by creating chances and hopefully adding a couple more goals to my game."

Thoughts on Luke Shaw's performances this season? Does he deserve to be crowned Manchester United Player of the Year?

Let us know in the comments. He must be up there, surely?
