Lautaro Martinez fired Argentina into the lead against Colombia inside the opening 10 minutes at the Estadio Nacional Mane Garrincha on Wednesday.

But Colombia bounced back in the second half as Luis Diaz pulled back a crucial equaliser for his side.

While the semi-final clash was decided on penalties, Messi mounted a stunning solo-counterattack late in the second half.

The Barcelona legend showcased his blistering pace and brilliant strength as he fended off Juan Cuadrado with ease.

Davinson Sanchez attempted to intercept Messi during the run, only for the Colombia international to be sent crashing onto the floor.

Messi's dazzling run only came to an end after Wilmar Barrios sent the six-time Ballon d'Or winner flying as a result of his challenge.

Referee Jesus Valenzuela booked Barrios for his tackle, with the Zenit Saint Petersburg defensive midfielder furious with the decision.

Someone else simply said: "Fouling him is the only way..."
