Jose Mourinho Had To Physically Stop Pierre-Emile Højbjerg From Going Back On The Pitch After Nasty Leg Injury

Jose Mourinho Had To Physically Stop Pierre-Emile Højbjerg From Going Back On The Pitch After Nasty Leg Injury

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg had to be stopped from entering the field of play by his own manager after he suffered a nasty-looking leg injury with just minutes remaining.

In the club's Carabao Cup semi-final win over Brentford on Tuesday night, where Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min helped Jose Mourinho's side to a rare Wembley final, the Danish ball-winning midfielder was on the receiving end of a horror challenge from Josh Dasilva.

With his stoods up, Dasilva connected with Højbjerg's shin as those around the Tottenham Hotspur stadium gasped when replays were shown on the screen.

The Brenford player was eventually given a red card for his lunging tackle after referee Mike Dean reviewed the incident on VAR and Højbjerg, standing with blood pouring down his shin, was eventually replaced by Japhet Tanganga before heading down the tunnel.

But the 25-year-old was determined to return to the action despite his wounds.

Jose Mourinho, who was heard shouting "you're a disgrace" from the touchline when the incident happened, still hopes the Danish midfielder will be available for the club's FA Cup clash against Marine at the weekend.

"It was for sure a bad tackle because he is bleeding a lot and the shin pad is broken." Mourinho said after the full-time whistle.

"That is football. Dasilva is a young guy and a good player so in the heat of the game there is nothing to be critical of. Mike Dean made the decision on VAR so everything is fine and correct.

After the full-time whistle, Højbjerg posted a classy message to Brentford's Josh Dasilva on his official Twitter page.

"Of course you didn't mean it. So don't worry. I'm a viking and I am fine. But...You owe me a new shin pad. You have a great future ahead @joshdasilva_. Be strong & keep working hard.

Best of luck to you and your team.
