Georginio Wijnladium might not have received as many plaudits as Virgil van Dijk or Sadio Mane this season, but the Dutch midfielder has been invaluable in Liverpool's ongoing title run.

The 28-year-old's faultless reading of the game, combined with his spacial awareness, give Jurgen Klopp's men a different dimension in midfield, especially with their gegenpressing mentality.

Wijnaldum, who has made 34 appearances for club and country this season, has undoubtably made a huge contribution to Liverpool's season thus far and to commend his run of form, the official @LFC account have posted the following highlights.

I certainly didn't realise how much of an impact he has on this Liverpool side. Impressive stuff.

Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk reposted Wijnaldum's highlights soon after and well, we can't help but applaud the Dutch midfielder.

He might just be one of the most underrated players in the Premier League right now.

To back up that statement, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believes the former Newcastle player deserves to be the first name on the teamsheet.

"I've told a lot of people... we had one player Ray Kennedy, fans were forever complaining about him, but we knew how good he was, Wijnaldum is the same and he should be the first name on the team sheet." he said.

"He possesses great knowledge and awareness of where he is on the pitch. He's a properly gifted player in more ways than the silky skills of the guys up front."

Thoughts on Wijnaldum's efforts this season? is he the most underrated player in the Premier League?
