It has felt like an eternity in the making but finally, Fred Rodrigues is starring for Manchester United in pre-season and he looks fantastic.

United announced the signing of Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk on a five-year deal at the beginning of June, but he didn't feature heavily in any of their previous pre-season matches.

He was given 68 minutes against Los Blancos on Tuesday, though, and It was worth the wait.

The 25-year-old ran the show for Jose Mourinho's side, showing that a Manchester United player can carry the ball and make a forward pass. He dictated play throughout and wasn't afraid to take on his man, which was a rarity at Old Trafford last season, in all honesty.

The Premier League side have yearned for a creative player in the middle of the park for years and judging by his individual highlights, Jose Mourinho has a real talent on his hands in Fred, who isn't afraid to try something different.

Just check out his cheeky pass to Alexis, last night.

Before you get to know Fred, though, there's something you need to know about his name - you've been pronouncing it wrong this whole time.

That's according to South American football expert Tim Vickery, who said in his column in the Radio Times that English-speaking folk have been pronouncing many South American names incorrectly.

Fred's name is actually pronounced 'FRAY-zhee'.

So now you know that shocking fact, take a look at some of the reaction from his impressive debut for The Reds:

Fred's performance has certainly given Manchester United fans some hope ahead of the campaign.
