It was a sad day in the history of world football. Davide Astori tragically passed away on March 4, ahead of the club's Serie A match against Udinese

The club have since retired the number 13 jersey in tribute to the former Italy international, and have renamed their training ground after Astori, who would have been 32-years-old today.

Many have paid tribute to Astori since his death, including former teammate Vitor Hugo, who dedicated Fiorentina's first goal since Astori's death with a touching tribute.

In the first game after Astori's death, an emotional atmosphere surrounded Stadio Artemio Franchi with the club and supporters paying a beautiful tribute to their captain.

The players and staff wore shirts with his name and number printed during the warm-up, and both sets of teams observed an impeccable minute silence prior to kick-off.

Once the game was underway, Fiorentina continued to pay respect by holding another tribute in the 13th minute.

Vitor Hugo then opened the scoring in the 25th minute with an incredible header, and Fiorentina immediately dedicated the goal to Astori.

The scorer went over to the touchline, held up a shirt then saluted him.

Happy Birthday, Davide.
