The Red Devils spent £9m in October 2020 to secure the services of the 19-year-old Uruguayan winger from Penarol.
Pellistri, who has featured for United Under-23s, was then loaned out to Spanish club Deportivo Alaves in January.
Now, the highly rated United youngster was able to show his impressive skills during the Red Devils' first pre-season match.
Tahith Chong opened the scoring at Pride Park in the first half on Sunday before Pellistri doubled United's lead in the second half.
Colin Kazim-Richards pulled one back for Derby in the second half, but Wayne Rooney's men were unable to mount a successful comeback against United.
Pellistri's superb showing with the first team left United fans blown away, with one supporter boldly calling him Messi's protege.
One fan posted: "His acceleration is just like Messi, bruh, he needs to improve his decision-making, shoot and vision."
While someone else wrote: "I'm not hyping him. He moves just like Messi."
And a third added: "Facundo Messistri or Lionel Pellistri?"
A fourth simply said: "Feels like Messi's protege."
Another person commented: "If Messi is Yoda, he might be Grogu."
Pellistri took to Instagram after the 2-1 win and admitted that he was 'thrilled' to make his United debut and to score against Derby.
The United winger wrote: "Great triumph for the team! Thrilled for my debut and my first goal in the [Manchester United] first division."
The Red Devils will resume their pre-season campaign on 24th July against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will also play against Brentford, Preston and Everton ahead of the new Premier League season.
