He loves it.

Many would presume that Cristiano Ronaldo would be tired of the daily, if not hourly, comparisons to his great rival, Lionel Messi, but he might just thrive off it judging by this fan footage.

It happened just weeks after he missed out on the best player in Europe award.

Messi scooped the prize after inspiring Barcelona to a historic treble, lifting the Champions League, La Liga and Copa Del Rey title.

It was clearly still fresh in the memory and when Ronaldo starred for Portugal against Albania in September 2015, the home support attempted to provoke by chanting "Messi, Messi, Messi" while the 33-year-old was training with his teammates.

In true Ronaldo fashion, though, he responded by encouraging the home fans to sing louder, pointing to his ear and raising his hands.

He loves it, doesn't he.

For the next 128,468 years, the debate about whether Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is the better player will remain.

For every person who thinks Ronaldo has the edge, another will say Messi is the superior one. That will never change.

We can, however, compare and analyse stats from their distinguished careers and make a judgement based from facts alone.

Messi holds the record for the most goals scored in a single season, beating Ronaldo's tally by an impressive 12 goals, while the Barcelona man also holds the record for the most goals scored in a calendar year by a massive 22 goals.

We are just lucky enough to be in a position where we can watch both Ronaldo and Messi in their prime.
