As a gesture of respect for the two players who have dominated the game for the last decade, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will reportedly sit together to watch the Copa Libertadores final between Boca Juniors and River Plate.

These are the plans of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, who wants to make a showcase of the pair when the match is played at the Bernabeu on Sunday night.

According to Spanish publication AS, The Federation and the South American Confederation agree to give preferential treatment to both Messi and Ronaldo this weekend.

It will be the first time Ronaldo has set foot in the Bernabeu since leaving the club this summer to join Juventus.

The city of Madrid is set to host the Champions League and Copa Libertadores final within the same year, with the suspended leg of the South American competition set to take place at the Bernabeu - a decision that has been controversial, to say the least.

The Copa Libertadores final second leg was suspended twice last month when River Plate fans attacked the coach carrying Boca Junior players arriving at the former's ground for the match.

River Plate went on to contest the idea of the Bernabeu hosting Sunday's game, but it looks like the tie will go ahead, with Ronaldo and Messi looking on.

The first leg at Boca had finished 2-2 but the second leg never got going after the violent scenes led to two Boca players having to go to hospital.

The club then appealed to Conembol that they shouldn't have to play the game on Sunday as it was unfair.

Eventually the South American football governing body relented and postponed the game again. They then decided that the match couldn't take place is Buenos Aires.

It was expected that the match would take place in Paraguay or Doha but FIFA have intervened and decided the match will take place in Madrid, at the home of Champions League holders Real.

Thoughts on the idea of Messi and Ronaldo sitting together? It would certainly make a good picture.
