It appears Spain fans want David De Gea DROPPED.

The Manchester United No.1, who has reportedly signed a new long term contract at Old Trafford, produced a horrendous mistake against Portugal to allow Cristiano Ronaldo to score.

Spain eventually shared the points following a thrilling World Cup encounter.

'La Roja' resume their World Cup campaign on Wednesday versus Iran who find themselves top of Group B after beating Morocco.

And ahead of the game, Spain supporters have been voting for who they want between the sticks.

And it's bad news for De Gea.

Spain fans want Fernando Hierro to drop De Gea, and replace him with Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Athletic Bilbao stopper is De Gea's understudy and only has one senior international appearance to his name.

But following his howler on Friday, Spain fans want Kepa in goal instead of De Gea.

AS.com posed the question: "Which keeper would you pick to start for Spain?"

39,917 readers took part in a survey, with a staggering 49.8% opting to replace De Gea with Kepa for Spain's second Group Stage game.

De Gea earned 38.4% of the votes cast, while veteran Pepe Reina came in third with 11.8%.

Despite online support for Kepa among the Spanish contingent, Hierro has defended De Gea.

"We're not going to point the finger of blame at anyone," said the Real Madrid legend via Sky Sports. "Of course there are moments when things don't go as well but we know what we want, and what we are asking our players and everyone is to see us as a team."

"We don't have any doubts about De Gea and he doesn't have any doubts about himself either. I gave him a long embrace, we know that being a goalkeeper requires special psychology and is a difficult position to play in.

"He has had lots of good days. We are a family, we are a team, and we stick together."

De Gea also received full backing from Spain captain, Sergio Ramos, who took to social media following the 3-3 draw.
