The cheek of it...

David de Gea produced another masterclass in the first leg of Manchester United's Champions League round of 16 clash against Sevilla. Of course he did.

Eat, sleep, save the season, repeat.

The Spaniard pulled off a very good save from Steven Nzonzi's header moments before half-time, but then went one better moments later by keeping out Luis Muriel, who had emerged free in the box to get on the end of a cross from Jesus Navas.

Incredibly, with Muriel 6.5 yards out from goal, De Gea had a mere 0.24 seconds to react. Talk about cat-like reflexes.

It was a memorable performance from the 27-year-old and his heroics have given Jose Mourinho's side a chance to progress on Monday evening in the second leg.

'Where would United be without De Gea' is a question many people have pondered in recent weeks, and clearly Sevilla have tried to get in the head of the Spain number one, just hours before kick-off.

Sevilla's official Twitter account aimed a tweet at De Gea, saying: Hey @D_DeGea, Keep your best stuff for the @FIFAWorldCup this time. Thanks, Sevilla FC..."

Rio Ferdinand's reaction to David De Gea's stunning save to deny Luis Muriel was something else, too.

Ferdinand simply couldn't believe what he had conjured up - with BT Sport's cameras capturing the moment he, Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard witnessed the heroics in the studio.

Later on in BT Sport's coverage of the game, Ferdinand revealed that there were plenty of doubts from United's first-teamers when a rookie De Gea joined from Atletico.

"When he first came, even as players we were sitting there as players with doubts," he said on BT Sport.

"A young kid just come through the doors at United, we need to win every year, how are we going to do that with a young kid, inexperienced, who looks like he's lacking confidence.

"To be fair, Steeley [United's ex-goalkeeping coach Eric Steele] who brought him in, believed in him and the gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson] followed that through, and look where he is today, that's a sign of someone who's worked hard to get where he needs to get."
