Sergio Busquets Is The Most Underated Player In World Football And He Proved It Last Night

People must realise how good he actually is...

"You watch the game, you don't see Busquets. You watch Busquets, you see the whole game." - Vincente del Bosque.

Sergio Busquets' midfield masterclass caught my eye last night and it hit me harder than ever before. Everything is so easy for the Spaniard. Some say he has eyes in the back of his head. He sees things seconds before anybody else.

Steven Gerrard said he was an "absolute nightmare" to play against because you couldn't get near him, while Rio Ferdinand claimed he could play in a pair of velvet slippers and perform.

When you watch him play, he always has a picture in his head of what he wants to do, even before that killer pass is made.

To sum up his time on the pitch against Chelsea on Tuesday night, the 29-year-old completed the most passes (128), the most touches (152) and made the most tackles throughout (6).

It was a vintage performance from Busquets - something that Barcelona fans are all to use too, but some underestimate his ability. Last night's performance, however, might have changed your opinion for the better.

In comparison to N'Golo Kante, who is now seen as one of the best defensive midfielders in world football, Busquets made 103 more passes than the Frenchman, and recovered two more balls. Not to mention his outrageous pass accuracy of 92%.

Busquets consistently snuffs out counter attacks while the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez grab the glory in the final third. He makes Leo's job easier. It's the Barca way and he knows it.

"I play in a position that demands hard work and generosity and little glamour, but I like it. It's my job and I like it. I would rather intercept and steal 10 balls than shoot. That's what I'm here for, to make everyone's jobs easier." Busquets once said.

I might just watch last night's game again and solely concentrate on the brilliance of Sergio Busquets. If your kid wants to be a centre midfielder, just make him watch his positional play and spacial awareness.

World class.
