Many thought Mohamed Salah would make a brief appearance for Egypt in their opening game of the World Cup this afternoon, but clearly his fitness levels did not suffice and as a result, the team suffered.

José Giménez's 89th minute header broke Egyptian hearts in the final minutes.

Including a devastated Salah, who looked on the verge of tears as Uruguay manager Óscar Tabárez celebrated on the touchline.

The Liverpool winger slumped back in his seat and dropped his head. A heartbreaking scene.

On Saturday, thousands of fans attended an Egypt training session with Mohamed Salah present, who appeared to be in good spirits following his shoulder injury in the Champions League final.

'The Egyptian King' made an appearance in Cairo yet didn't take part in the training session.

Maybe that was a sign that he would not appear at all during their opening game against Luis Suarez and co.

Last week, Salah surprised everyone by suggesting that he will be fit in time to face Uruguay in Egypt's opening game of the World Cup, despite the shoulder injury picked up in the Champions League final.

Sergio Ramos' shithousery against the winger took the Liverpool forward out of the Champions League final after just half an hour.

I'm predicting that Salah will be heavily involved for Egypt's next game against Russia next week.
