Cristiano Ronaldo's Record Against The World's Best International Teams Is Shockingly Bad

Interesting stats...

Cristiano Ronaldo may be Portugal's all-time top scorer with 81 goals 148 games, but his scoring record against the 'top' international teams in years gone by is surprisingly bad based on his typically high standards.

The 33-year-old captained his side to European glory in 2016 and attempted 17 more shots than any other player at the tournament.

Not to mention the fact he has scored 20 goals more than Lionel Messi is his international career.

But with all of the above in mind, Ronaldo has struggled in high profile games.

If you take a look at the stats below, he has failed to score against Italy, Spain, England, Germany and Brazil for large spells - based on his typically high standards.

He has failed to find the net against Germany in a total of 360 minutes, while his record against Spain isn't the best. He hasn't even score against England in an impressive 285 minutes.

Cristiano Ronaldo did, however, become the third highest goalscorer in international football history when he bagged two goals in stoppage time on a famous Friday night in Zurich.

Going into the final stages of the game, the headlines were already written. It would be the night Mohamed Salah continued his wonderful goalscoring form to beat European champions Portugal.

But the brilliance of Ronaldo, 14 years after he scored his first goal in a Portugal shirt, stole the back pages.

As you can see in the footage below, the 33-year-old casually brought it down with his left and bamboozled the Egyptian defender before producing a slick back heel.

It makes you think, surely he could produce these skills more often for Real Madrid?

Anyway, we've really, really missed this Ronaldo
