Rare footage of Sir Alex Ferguson giving a Manchester United team talk in his prime has emerged and it shows why he is one of football's greatest managers.

Ferguson dominated English football at the helm of United and helped them win every trophy possible across his 26-year spell.

A documentary filming 'The Alex Ferguson Story' were given private access back in 1998 and it provided a fascinating insight into the Scotsman's thought process.

United legends such as Roy Keane, Gary Neville and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had their eyes glued to their manager as he discussed bitter rivals Liverpool. Check it out in the video below from 5:09.

United were facing Liverpool that weekend and among their ranks was former Red Devil Paul Ince.

There was no love lost however and Ferguson urged his team to not be intimidated by 'the Guv'nor.'

Per Pundit Arena, Ferguson begins: "Don't f**king attempt to let him f**king bully you. Right?

"You just make sure you're ready for him tomorrow. That's all you need to worry about him, his f**king big time Charlie bit. He's against f**king men, am I right?

"That's all you need to worry about him."

Steve McManaman was another key man for Liverpool and Ferguson had words on how to shut down the England international.

"It's straight forward, as far as I'm concerned, you look after McManaman and you close him down quickly.

"You don't need to detail a player. Whoever is nearest to him, you close him down and don't allow him to dictate.

"Three years ago, we lost the league at Anfield by not listening to instructions about McManaman."

Goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel is dubbed over the footage and heard saying: "We've heard it every time we play Liverpool, 'McManaman is doing this,' we know that.

"He doesn't really have to tell us, we already know. I think he likes team talks."

Ferguson then hits back with comments of his own, explaining: "It's the players that are the problem. They're quite happy to not change.

"When I first came to the club I said 'I'm not gonna change by the way, there's no question about that, you all need to change.' That's what happens you see, a manager has to make his impact."

United ended up drawing the game 1-1 and while they didn't win the Premier League title that season, the season after saw them clinch a historic treble.
