Phil Jones Scores The Most Phil Jones Own Goal Ever Against Valencia

Phil Jones Scores The Most Phil Jones Own Goal Ever Against Valencia

Manchester United have gone 2-0 down in the second half of their Champions League group stage tie against Valencia thanks to a comical own goal from Phil Jones. It just had to be him.

Jones toe-poked it past his own goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, after the Argentinian rushed off his line to collect a stray pass.

To think, Sir Alex Ferguson once said that the centre-back could be one of the great Manchester United players.

Here's the moment he messed up at the Mestalla.

Oh dear, Phil.

It took just 16 minutes for Valencia to take the lead against Jose Mourinho's men, when Carlos Soler produces a sublime finish with the outside of his boot to knock it past a helpless Romero.

It hasn't been a great night in Spain for United and a spectacular miss from Paul Pogba summed up their night.

The French midfielder somehow knocked it wide from yards. Thankfully for him it was called offside, but it really shouldn't have been. Thoughts on this one?

In other positive news for Manchester United supporters, in their UEFA Youth League match against Valencia on Wednesday afternoon, Shola Shoretire became their youngest ever player to ever appear in a official youth league/cup game, aged 14 years, 10 months and 10 days old.

Shoretime became the youngest player in UEFA Youth Cup history at the age of 14 and 314 days when he came on in the 74th minute, creating history in the meantime.

What a moment for the youngster, who has been touted for big things at Old Trafford.

See, it's not all bad.
