It wasn't exactly the perfect ending to life in the Champions League for legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
In the most dramatic of circumstances, the Italian was given a red card moments before Cristiano Ronaldo slotted away from the penalty spot, but was it the correct decision?
Premier League referee Michael Oliver decided to dismiss Buffon after his dramatic reaction to the controversial penalty decision.

But if you look back at the footage, eagle eyed viewers spotted that Juventus winger Douglas Costa might have been responsible for pushing Oliver, just moments before he handed out the red card.
Did the referee think that Buffon pushed him?

If you fast forward to around 2 minutes 30 seconds in the following clip, you can see Costa entering the huddle and seconds later, the referee pulled out the red from his back pocket.
Well this might change everything.
The decision has caused huge debate on social media, but Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't understand the protest, believing it was a clear foul and ultimately a penalty.

"I don't understand why they are protesting. Lucas was tackled from behind and if they don't give him the penalty, it's a goal," he said via Sky Sports.
"The pulse increased, but I calmed down, and I knew I'd be decisive," he added after slotting a ridiculously-good penalty."
"We have suffered, but it helps us to learn. In football, nothing is given away, you have to fight until the end. Madrid could've scored more goals, but Juve and Buffon were good."
