Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that his side were "set up to fail" after their 3-1 victory over Everton.

The Red Devils had suffered back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir ahead of their trip to Goodison Park today.

And United were placed on the back foot against Everton after Bernard opened the scoring in the 19th minute.

However, the Red Devils bounced back and went 2-1 up at half-time thanks to a Bruno Fernandes brace.

Edinson Cavani, who was signed on deadline day for United, scored deep into injury time to seal all three points for the Red Devils.

United were also unlucky to receive a penalty in the second half after Jordan Pickford's shockingly bad challenge on Harry Maguire.

Solskjaer, who has been under pressure at United after recent results, pulled no punches during his post-match interview.

The 47-year-old Norwegian was furious with how soon United returned to action after their Champions League defeat and called it "absolute shambles."

Solskjaer told BT Sport: "We were set up to fail. The kick-off time set us up to fail.

"We have been to Turkey, played loads of games this season already, we got back Thursday morning and we are playing Saturday lunchtime, it's an absolute shambles.

"These boys deserve better. Luke Shaw has got injured because of it. It's a hamstring, which might be a long one and Marcus Rashford might be struggling.

"The authorities set us up for fail, who is responsible? We've had enough of that. Players this season, in these times, a pandemic, mentally and physically it's draining.

"Let us play on a Sunday, there's an international break after this, it's a joke. The players were brilliant. Cavani is getting better and better."

United's first-match post-international break will be against West Brom at Old Trafford on 21st November.
