Nemanja Vidic Compilation 'Proves' He Is A 'Joker' Compared To Liverpool Star Virgil Van Dijk
Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic's worst moments have been spotlighted in a compilation as one fan dismissed a comparison with Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.
Vidic, 39, forged a formidable partnership with fellow club legend Rio Ferdinand as he enjoyed a prolific playing career at Old Trafford.
Van Dijk, meanwhile, has been hailed at Liverpool for his sensational impact since his £75m move from Southampton in 2018.
The 29-year-old Dutch centre-back has been compared with former United skipper Vidic as fans argued in heated debates over who was the better defender.
Now, one fan has produced a compilation to highlight why Vidic's name shouldn't be uttered in the same breath as Van Dijk's.
One fan tweeted: "There is no comparison. Vidic could be exposed in any foot race and vulnerable when pulled out wide. The other can't be outrun, outjumped, etc."
Someone else posted: "[Dejan] Lovren is a poor man's Vidic. Rio was a poor man's Virgil."
While a third added: "Looks like he was sent off 12 times against Liverpool."
And a fourth said: "No wonder he was targeted by Liverpool players whenever they played United. They know he's the weak link."
Vidic, who retired from football in 2016, admitted in 2019 that he was an admirer of Van Dijk as he said the Liverpool star was "definitely one of the best defenders in the world."
World Cup winner Frank Leboeuf has also argued that Van Dijk, who is currently sidelined due to injury, is a "more complete" defender than Vidic.
The 53-year-old Frenchman told ESPN in 2020: "I would go for Van Dijk. I think he's more complete.
"I loved Vidic, because I think he was a dog, and a fantastic defender. But Van Dijk can lead the team and has this great range of passing.
"I don't think Vidic was capable of doing that. Hats off to him, though, he was a fantastic defender."
