Manchester United prodigy Charlie McNeill has apologised for the comments he made about Liverpool during a post-match interview - although many believe he did nothing wrong.

The 17-year-old forward is regarded as one of the club's brightest young prospects after joining from local rivals Manchester City last summer for a reported seven-figure sum.

McNeill, who has scored over 600 goals at youth level, continues to impress for United's youth side. In fact, he has scored 16 goals in 15 games for the U18's this season, including four goals against City in February.

He was once again on the scoresheet in the club's recent FA Youth Cup clash against Salford City, where he bagged a goal in a 2-0 win, although a post-match interview led to him apologising after the full-time whistle.

In the interview with MUTV, a confident McNeill speaks about the importance of his teammates throughout the campaign.

He also chats about his "amazing" journey at the club because he is a Manchester United fan "through and through."

After speaking about his goal against Salford, the striker then explains what it would be like to get a win over bitter rivals Liverpool in the next round of this season's FA Youth Cup.

"We will look to go all the way in this competition and in the next round, we will play Liverpool if they win, which is obviously a derby and an amazing game to play in." he said.

"It's a derby like I said and it would be great to win that game and rub it in their faces as well."

After the post-match interview, McNeill took to Instagram to apologise for his comments and insisted he didn't mean to come across as disrespectful.

"I just wanted to say my interview last night I said a thing I probably shouldn't have said and I wasn't trying to be disrespectful to anyone," he wrote on his official page. "I have learnt from my mistake and will take this on into the future."

Back in December, McNeill became an instant fan-favourite after his 'L' celebration against Leeds United.

The youngster opened the scoring in a 4-0 win for United's Under 18's at Carrington training ground, cheekily slotting a Panenka penalty down the middle with just seven minutes on the clock.

And if that wasn't enough, he then decided to channel his inner Antoine Griezmann by busting out the 'Take the L' celebration made famous on battle royale game Fortnite.

Remember the name.
