Lionel Messi Crowned The GOAT By Official Twitter Sports After Cristiano Ronaldo Snub

Twitter has now had its say on the ongoing debate surrounding Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi and Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

Twitter has snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo by crowning fierce rival Lionel Messi as the GOAT of football.

The official Twitter account tweeted a message saying, "you are right," which caught the attention of Goal and they responded: "Messi and Ronaldo can both be the GOAT."

But the Twitter Sports account decided to reply to the tweet with a GIF of the Barcelona superstar mouthing 'no' and wagging his finger.

Juventus superstar Ronaldo, 34, reignited his rivalry with Messi this month when he took a cheeky dig at him over his Champions League success.

"The difference with Messi is that I played for several clubs and won the Champions League with different clubs," the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star said.

"I was [the] top scorer in the Champions League six seasons in a row. There aren't many players who won five Champions League trophies, so this is why I feel that I can identity myself with this tournament.

"Messi is an excellent player who will be remembered not just for his Ballon d'Or wins, but also for having improved -- like me -- year after year."

While it's not the first time that Ronaldo has taken a swipe at the Argentine superstar, he has praised Messi this month for making him a better player in the sport.

"I really admire the career he has had and from his side, he has already talked of the disappointment when I left Spain because it was a rivalry that he appreciated," the Portugal captain said.

"It's a good rivalry but it's not unique -- Michael Jordan had rivalries in basketball, there was Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in Formula 1. The thing they all had in common is that they were healthy rivalries.

"I have no doubt that Messi has made me a better player and vice-versa. When I am winning trophies it must sting him and it's the same for me when he wins."
